One UI is a software overlay developed by Samsung Electronics for its Android devices running Android 9 "Pie" and college and Windows devices running Windows xi and higher. Succeeding Samsung Feel and TouchWiz, it is designed to make using larger smartphones easier and get more visually highly-seasoned. To provide more than clarity, some elements of the UI are tweaked to match the colors that are based on the color of the user'south phone. It was announced at Samsung'due south developer conference in 2018,[1] and was unveiled in Milky way Unpacked in February 2019 alongside the Galaxy S10 serial, Galaxy Buds and the Milky way Fold.

It is as well the software layer for their smartwatch Tizen and Wear Os platform, which Samsung co-developed with Google.[ commendation needed ]

Features [edit]

I UI was designed as part of a goal to make Samsung'due south hardware and software "work together in perfect harmony" and provide a more "natural" experience on large-screen smartphones. I UI displays most of the features that were in the Samsung Experience UX. A prominent blueprint design in many of Samsung's system applications is to intentionally place common features and user interface elements along the eye of the screen rather than near the top. This makes them easier to attain with a user's thumb when using the device i-handed. For similar reasons, apps utilise large headers to push button their main content towards the vertical middle of the screen. The navigation bar supports the apply of gestures and the usual iii-button system, while a system-wide "night style" was as well added (which gives UI elements and supported applications a darkened colour scheme). As with Android Pie upstream, the Overview screen of recent apps uses a horizontal layout, as opposed to the vertical layout of previous versions.[2] [three] [4] [5]

Version history [edit]

One UI 1 [edit]

One UI i.0, the first version of One UI, brought about many features which were becoming increasingly popular amid diverse apps and iOS. Kickoff and foremost, dark mode was added to brand viewing in dark spaces easier on the user'due south optics. This feature was included in many apps and eventually brought to iOS 13 and Android 10. The first version as well brought native screenshot editing tools, refined curves, refinements to the E'er-On Brandish (tap to show), an upgraded Bixby with support for remapping the Bixby button, and a new way to navigate the device: gestures. While Android ix "Pie" did come with gesture support, information technology was but available on Pixel devices and stock AOSP devices and is said to exist 'half broiled' by many users. However, Samsung decided to create their own gesture organization to navigate devices with OneUI installed. To accomplish this, the user has to swipe upwardly from the bottom of the device in the three locations of the 'buttons' to navigate. The gesture organisation has received mixed reviews.[6] [7] [8]

I UI 1.1, a small-scale update for One UI, brought a few camera, fingerprint, and facial recognition stability fixes and performance optimizations.[9] This update isn't available on the Galaxy S8, Note8, S9, and Note9 range, just was an OTA update for the Galaxy S10 series devices.
